FAQ's

1.
What products are affected?
Brivis AD and Carrier 29CB brand evaporative coolers sold between 28th August 2000 to 21st November 2003 within a specified serial number range (403265 - 563076). No other cooler models are affected by this Rework Program.

2.
I have a Brivis or Carrier cooler that falls within the serial number or date range – what should I do?
Turn it off and call the Brivis AD Cooler Rework line on 1300 274 847. You can also register your unit for rework on-line at www.brivisadcoolerrework.com.au

3.
What could happen if the unit fails / how dangerous is the situation – is my family/household at risk?
We have experienced instances of component failure that could, in rare cases, cause property damage and or personal injury.

4.
Has there been any property damage (fires) or loss of life?
There have been a very small number of instances of property damage only. There have been no injuries.

5.
If the rework is a precautionary measure, why do you advise people to turn off
their coolers?
Whilst the incidence of component failures has been very low, as a responsible company we believe the safety of our customers must come first. We want to rework the units as soon as possible, and this is the safest and quickest way to do so.

6.
How long will it take to rework all the units? How long can individual customers expect to wait?
To expedite the rework program we have engaged an external workforce to get to as many coolers we can as quickly as possible. We are unable to provide a firm time frame, but are committed to completing the works as soon as possible, and before the cooling season commences.

7.
I thought your coolers were the best in terms of quality and reliability – how
did this happen?
The incidence of warranty claims is extremely small. Brivis / Carrier units have always been regarded by the trade as extremely reliable. Our track record over 45 years has been excellent, and we believe the fact that this rework is being done primarily as a precautionary measure will help to maintain our reputation for standing behind the quality of our products.

8.
Why can’t I use my cooler? I’ve had my cooler for years and never had a
problem. What will happen if I do use it?
We acknowledge that many affected units have been operating, and may continue to operate reliably for some time. Our advice to customers who have identified that they have an affected unit is to not operate it until such time as we have done the rework. As a responsible company we believe the safety of our customers must come first.

9.
Could this damage my Brivis, Carrier (or other brand) heater?
There is no direct connection between Heaters and Coolers that could cause problems related to the rework.

10.
Do I have to be home for the rework/do I need to take time off work?
No. If the unit is easily and readily accessible, we can carry out the rework without the need for anyone to be present. We will leave a letter in your letterbox to advise the job is complete.

11.
Why are Carrier brand coolers affected by the Brivis rework program?
Brivis manufactured units which were distributed under the Carrier brand.
